Why Can T Selby Adopt Iris?

But there’s still a sinister undertone to it all.

Selby, who doesn’t like the idea that he can’t legally adopt Iris because he served time in jail for nearly killing a man, disagrees. He believes it turns their small family into a well-manicured lie and becomes depressed as a result.

Selby threatens to see her mother after ignoring Costello for several weeks, so he lets the tires of his automobile go. Both treat one another in an unnecessarily brutal manner. Iris notices the deteriorating nature of their connection and the clear distress Selby is experiencing.

What Happens to Costello S Money?

Time goes by (title cards announce each month.) Selby’s behavior starts to resemble outright psychosis, even peeing in Iris’ bath (while she’s in it!). Iris tries to mend fences with Selby when she throws a Halloween party, ostensibly for Iris’ benefit but really to celebrate her own newfound position.

At this point, things start to go horribly wrong, and Rain Dogs takes a turn that is so painfully dark that it almost becomes a different show. Costello agrees to leave because she and Iris would never have to worry about finding a place to live again because she has a small nest egg saved.

But Selby enjoys bragging about how much of that money he has lost to gambling. Iris and Costello are forced to remain.

Naturally, Costello loses control and attacks Selby, and destroys the house.

Why Does Costello Decide to Stay?

In December, Costello wakes Iris in the middle of the night. As she prepares to flee, she loads the car with her and their belongings. Then Costello decides against going as she longingly gazes at the mansion. They both return inside and store their bags. As Costello makes coffee, Iris cuddles up to Selby to close the show.

Right now, it’s difficult to determine why Costello chooses to remain. She may be concerned about her financial stability after promising Iris that they would never again be homeless.

Yet, it’s far more possible that she is caught in a seriously poisonous relationship with a man she loves, who also loves her daughter in his own way and who loves her in return. It’s extremely possible that later episodes will focus on Costello’s ability to identify and break away from this cycle of addiction and poison because it’s so frequent.
