Americans have received COVID-19 stimulus checks for 3 years, and it has been over a year after the previous payment, but as legislative support increases, discussions of a 4th round are once again rising.
The 3 direct payments were made by the federal government to millions of financially worried Americans during the duration of the pandemic, like an expanded child tax credit (CTC) that gave households some breathing room and has been credited with just reducing child poverty by as much as 30%.
Even though such expansions concluded at the end of 2021, both sides of the political range are now showing increased interest in bringing back those monthly payments.
Proposals for restoring the CTC are overwhelmingly endorsed by Democrats in both chambers and are a primary concern for them. A new piece of legislation that would raise the $300 monthly payouts to $2,000 for each month in which a newborn kid is born already has the support of 210 Democrats in the House.
