Kroger Co will give West Virginia a $68 Million Settlement Pay to resolve a case filed by West Virginia alleging that Kroger contributed to the excess supply of opioids and failed to continue controls.
Kroger’s Settlement Pay to West Virginia in Connection with Lawsuit of excess supply of Opioids
On Thursday, West Virginia Attorney announced the Settlement Pay from Kroger. Kroger is the last defendant of West Virginia in a state case involving Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS.
Kroger’s Settlement Pay to West Virginia will not severely cause damage the financial wealth of the company. The company’s profit last year was $4.1 billion.
West Virginia lawsuit alleged the Kroger company of excess supply of opioids in the state has resulted in significant losses of ongoing and past medical treatment costs.
The Settlement Pay will not bring back the lives lost
Even though the Settlement Pay from Kroger will not back the lives lost, the money would help those most affected by the crisis in West Virginia.
From 1990 to 2022, approximately 564,000 people died from opioid overdose. The local government and state have filed many cases against drug companies accused of giving them a crisis.
