Verizon Owes You Money! Here’s How Much You Could Get from the $100M Settlement

Many Verizon customers have started receiving payments from a $100 million class-action settlement, but instead of feeling victorious, some are outraged over the small amounts they’re getting.

This settlement was meant to compensate customers who were charged “undisclosed” administrative fees between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023. However, now that payouts have begun, many customers are receiving far less than they expected—some as little as $3.85.

Why Verizon Had to Pay Up

The lawsuit claimed that Verizon unfairly charged administrative fees on its postpaid wireless plans without properly disclosing them. These fees, which gradually increased over time, left many customers with higher-than-expected bills.

Rather than fighting a long legal battle, Verizon agreed to pay $100 million to settle the claims, though the company denied any wrongdoing. Verizon argued that its fees were clearly listed in customer agreements, marketing materials, and billing statements.

Who Qualified for the Money?

The settlement covered current and former Verizon customers in the U.S. who paid administrative fees during the affected period. Customers had to file a claim before April 15, 2024, to be eligible.

How Much Were Customers Supposed to Get?

The payout structure was based on how long a person had been a Verizon customer:

  • A minimum of $15 per eligible account
  • An additional $1 per month that the administrative fee was paid, up to a max of $100

For example, if you were a Verizon customer for 10 months, you would have expected a payout of $25 ($15 base + $10 additional).

When Are Payments Arriving?

Verizon began distributing settlement payments in January 2025. Customers could choose to receive their money through PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, virtual prepaid cards, or mailed checks. Electronic payments have been processed quickly, but mailed checks may take longer to arrive.

Customers Furious Over Tiny Payments

While the settlement initially seemed like a win for Verizon customers, many are now feeling let down by the small payouts.

Social media is filled with complaints from people who received far less than expected. Some claim their payout was under $5, leading one frustrated user to say, “They could’ve kept the money.”

This happened because too many people filed claims, which spread the $100 million settlement thin. As a result, individual payments were reduced on a pro-rata basis (meaning the money was divided evenly among claimants).

Final Thoughts

The Verizon class-action settlement aimed to compensate customers for undisclosed fees, but many feel shortchanged. While Verizon agreed to update its disclosure policies, customers are still left wondering if justice was really served.

If you filed a claim, check your email, PayPal, or Venmo to see if your payment has arrived. But don’t be surprised if it’s not the amount you were hoping for.
