$600 Tax Rebates in Idaho

The Idaho Tax Commission has been issuing tax rebates to eligible Idaho residents since last fall, with payments ranging from $300 for individuals to $600 for couples. These automatic payments can also be worth up to 10% of 2020 income taxes or whichever amount is greater. The reason for the rebates is due to Idaho’s projected budget surplus of $1.54 billion for the 2023 fiscal year.

To be eligible for the payment, individuals must have been a full-year Idaho resident in 2020 and 2021 by December 31, 2022, and filed an Idaho individual income tax return or a Form 24 for those years, according to a published article in The U.S. Sun.

A full-year resident is defined as someone who lived in Idaho for the entire tax year, and domicile is where one has their permanent home. Active military members stationed in Idaho are also considered residents of the state.

How to Receive the Tax Rebates?

In a published article in MARCA, those who provided their bank information when filing their 2021 tax returns will receive their tax rebates via direct deposit. All other taxpayers will receive a check at the most recent address the Idaho Tax Commission has on file.

This includes taxpayers who used a refund product such as a refund anticipation loan when filing their return with tax software. Eligible individuals can track the status of their rebates using the Where’s My Rebate tool at tax.idaho.gov/rebate.

The Commission expects to send over 800,000 payments worth up to half a billion dollars by Friday or today, with roughly 75,000 payments made each week. Eligible residents who have yet to receive their payment are encouraged to act quickly to ensure they receive their cash payment before the deadline.
