Millions of Texas families rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help put food on the table. With February 2025 in full swing, many recipients are wondering when their benefits will be loaded onto their Lone Star Card. If you’re a SNAP recipient in Texas, here’s everything you need to know about when your payment will arrive.
How Texas SNAP Benefits Are Distributed
Unlike some states that send out all SNAP payments on the same day, Texas follows a staggered schedule. The exact date you receive your benefits depends on your Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number.
For those who were approved before June 1, 2020, SNAP benefits are distributed between the 1st and 15th of each month, based on the last digit of the EDG number. If your last digit is:
- 0: Benefits arrive on the 1st
- 1: Benefits arrive on the 3rd
- 2: Benefits arrive on the 5th
- 3: Benefits arrive on the 6th
- 4: Benefits arrive on the 7th
- 5: Benefits arrive on the 9th
- 6: Benefits arrive on the 11th
- 7: Benefits arrive on the 12th
- 8: Benefits arrive on the 13th
- 9: Benefits arrive on the 15th
For those approved on or after June 1, 2020, benefits are distributed between the 16th and 28th, based on the last two digits of the EDG number. For example:
- 00-03: Benefits arrive on the 16th
- 04-06: Benefits arrive on the 17th
- 07-10: Benefits arrive on the 18th
- 11-13: Benefits arrive on the 19th
- 14-17: Benefits arrive on the 20th
- … and so on, up to 99, which gets benefits on the 28th.
Since today is February 18, 2025, this means SNAP recipients with EDG numbers ending in 07 through 10 will receive their benefits today. Those with EDG numbers 11 through 13 can expect their deposit tomorrow on February 19.
How Much Will You Get?
The amount you receive depends on your household size and income. Here’s the maximum monthly benefit based on household size:
- 1 person: $291
- 2 people: $535
- 3 people: $766
- 4 people: $973
- 5 people: $1,155
- 6 people: $1,386
- 7 people: $1,532
- 8 people: $1,751
For each additional person, add $219. However, most households receive an adjusted amount based on their income and expenses.
Using Your Lone Star Card
Your Lone Star Card works just like a debit card and can be used at authorized grocery stores, farmers markets, and even some online retailers like Amazon and Walmart. This makes it easier for families to access healthy food, even if they don’t have transportation to a store.
