Surprise Cash! $1,400 Stimulus Checks & $1,702 PFD Deposits – Are You Eligible?

The IRS is rolling out another round of stimulus payments, and Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) deposits are set to follow soon after. If you’re eligible, you could be seeing up to $1,400 from the government and $1,702 in PFD payments later this year. Here’s everything you need to know.

Who’s Getting the Stimulus Check?

The IRS has identified about one million taxpayers who were eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit but didn’t claim it on their 2021 tax returns. Instead of making people file amended returns, the IRS is automatically sending out payments of up to $1,400.

These payments started going out in December 2024, and most recipients should receive them by the end of January 2025. The money will be sent via direct deposit or a paper check, and recipients will also get a notification letter explaining the payment.

Didn’t File Your 2021 Taxes? You May Still Qualify

If you haven’t filed your 2021 tax return yet, there’s still time to claim your stimulus money. The IRS is urging non-filers to submit their returns before the April 15, 2025, deadline. Missing this deadline could mean losing out on hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars in stimulus payments.

Alaska PFD Deposits Are Coming—Here’s When to Expect Them

For Alaskans, the state’s annual PFD payments are another big financial boost. The PFD program distributes a portion of Alaska’s oil revenue to eligible residents, and last year’s payment was approximately $1,702.

Applications for the 2025 PFD opened on January 1 and will remain open until March 31, 2025. To qualify, you must have been an Alaska resident for all of 2024 and plan to stay in the state.

When Will You Get Your PFD Payment?

Although the final amount for the 2025 PFD hasn’t been confirmed, payments usually go out in October. If you applied online and set up direct deposit, you’ll likely receive your payment at the beginning of the month. Those who opted for paper checks or submitted paper applications will get their payments later in October.

What You Need to Do Now

  • If you filed a 2021 tax return but missed the Recovery Rebate Credit, your stimulus check should arrive by late January 2025.
  • If you didn’t file a 2021 return, submit it before April 15, 2025, to claim any missing stimulus money.
  • Alaska residents should apply for the 2025 PFD before March 31, 2025, to ensure they receive their payment in October.

Between the IRS stimulus checks and Alaska’s PFD payments, many Americans will see a financial boost in the coming months. Make sure you’re taking the right steps to claim your money before time runs out!
