In 2023, the subject that occupies everyone’s thoughts is “stimulus in 2023.”
In the wake of the pandemic, numerous states and the federal government initiated stimulus in 2023 programs in the form of economic impact payments
Now, three years after the passage of the CARES Act, stimulus in 2023 distributions have largely ceased. However, due to a persistently turbulent economy and other financial pressures, some states continue to offer assistance. Here, we highlight eight instances of this ongoing trend.
Alabama, for example, is set to issue a one-time tax rebate in November, offering single tax filers $150 and married couples $300, benefiting roughly 1.9 million residents. Georgia residents who file their state income taxes for 2021 or 2022 by October 16, 2023, may qualify for a one-time tax credit. Meanwhile, Illinois is sending unclaimed property checks, potentially worth up to $5,000, to more than 66,000 individuals. Minnesota has already begun distributing one-time tax rebates of up to $1,300 to eligible residents, with varying amounts based on income and dependents.
Montana residents who filed taxes by October 1, 2023, may receive rebates on their income and property taxes for 2021 and 2022
New Mexico‘s Human Services Department began distributing Economic Relief Payments in July 2023, providing $500 to individuals and $1,000 to couples and households. Pennsylvania‘s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has an application deadline of December 31, 2023, offering assistance to eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities. Finally, eligible workers in Washington state may claim up to $1,200 in tax credits through the Washington Working Families Tax Credit Refund, with a submission deadline of December 31, 2023.
“The subject of ‘stimulus in 2023’ remains a significant focus in these regions, providing economic assistance to individuals in need during difficult circumstances.”
