Several states in the US have implemented direct payment programs for their residents in an effort to help them cope with inflation and economic uncertainty

Alaska has started sending out payments worth $3,284 through its Permanent Fund Dividend, an annual payment based on a portion of the state’s oil revenues. To qualify, residents must have submitted an application for the funds by March 31 and lived in Alaska through all of 2021. Georgia approved a rebate worth up to $500 for residents who filed their taxes for both 2021 and 2022 and live in the state. The payments are expected to start going out in May.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts has implemented the Chelsea Eats program, which provides a guaranteed basic income initiative for needy residents who earn $400 each month. The program accepted applications in December 2021 and selected recipients based on a weighted lottery in February 2022.

Over 700 households can expect their final installment on May 15

Other states such as New Mexico and Colorado have implemented tax relief packages and rent, property tax, and heat credit rebate programs, respectively. Additionally, lawmakers in Kansas are considering rebates worth up to $900, depending on the filing status.

Lastly, California has launched a universal basic income pilot, which provides participants with $800 in monthly payments.
