If you rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, here’s some important news: The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed a change to the March 2025 payment schedule. Instead of arriving in March, your benefits will hit your account a day early, at the end of February.
Why Is the March SSI Payment Coming Early?
Normally, SSI payments go out on the first of each month. But when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the SSA issues payments on the last business day before that date.
Since March 1, 2025, falls on a Saturday, the SSA is moving the payment up to Friday, February 28, 2025. That means you’ll get your March payment a little early – but it also means no payment will arrive in March.
What Does This Mean for Your Budget?
Because the March payment will come at the end of February, you’ll need to plan carefully. Your next SSI check won’t arrive until April 1, 2025, so there will be a longer-than-usual gap between payments.
This isn’t the first time SSI payments have been adjusted like this. Earlier in the year, similar shifts occurred:
- January’s payment was issued on December 31, 2024, since January 1 was a holiday.
- February’s payment arrived on January 31, because February 1 fell on a Saturday.
- March’s payment will now be deposited on February 28, instead of March 1.
- April’s payment will follow the normal schedule, arriving on April 1, 2025.
How to Prepare for the Payment Change
If you depend on SSI, keep this change in mind when managing your finances. Since you won’t receive a payment in March, it’s a good idea to budget your February 28 check carefully to make sure it lasts until April.
If you’re unsure about your payment date or need further assistance, you can check your deposit schedule through your My Social Security account or call the SSA for more details.

Keeping track of these schedule adjustments can help you avoid surprises and stay in control of your finances. Be sure to mark your calendar, and if you know others who receive SSI, let them know about the upcoming change!
