Recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income were told by the government they were qualified for payouts when COVID-19 stimulus funds were distributed to a billion Americans.
However, some beneficiaries among the Americans who are retired and disabled may have received over they had anticipated in the form of lost payments.
Stimulus checks, valued up to $3,200 per person or $6,400 per married couple across 3 rounds of payouts, resulted in the suspension of benefits for some SSI beneficiaries or the assessment of excess payments. According to reports, overpayment warnings have also been sent to Social Security recipients.
