Millions of Americans relying on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are set to receive increased benefits starting this year. As part of the annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has revised the maximum benefit amounts to better reflect inflation and the rising cost of food.
The updated benefits, which took effect in October 2024 and will last until September 2025, mean some households will see more money on their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards each month. The biggest adjustment has been for high-cost areas like Hawaii, where a one-person household can now receive up to $517 per month.
How Much More Will You Get?
The amount you receive depends on where you live and the number of people in your household. Here’s what the new maximum monthly SNAP benefits look like for the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C.:
- 1 person: $292
- 2 people: $535
- 3 people: $766
- 4 people: $973
- 5 people: $1,155
- 6 people: $1,386
If you live in Hawaii, Alaska, or U.S. territories, your benefits will be higher due to the increased cost of living in those areas.
When Will You Get Your March EBT Deposit?
SNAP benefits are deposited on different dates depending on your state. Here are some of the payment dates for March 2025:
- California: March 1–10
- Florida: March 1–28
- Georgia: March 5–23
- Illinois: March 1–10
- New York: March 1–9
- Texas: March 1–28
Every state has its own schedule, so if you don’t see yours here, be sure to check with your local SNAP office or visit your state’s benefits website.
What You Should Do Next
To make sure you receive your SNAP benefits on time, keep track of your state’s payment schedule and check your EBT card balance regularly. If you have any issues with your deposit, contact your state’s SNAP office as soon as possible.
With food prices still high, this increase in benefits is a welcome relief for millions of families. If you or someone you know needs help applying for SNAP, visit fns.usda.gov/snap to check eligibility and apply online.
