The NYC Council demanded at least a $195 million funding increase for legal aid providers following the funding crisis.
NYC Council Calls Additional Funding for Legal Aid Providers to Next Year’s State Budget Amidst Funding Crisis
Following the funding crisis faced by city lawyers, NYC Council urged the City Mayor to allocate additional funding of at least $195 million for legal aid providers, who only received a $40 million budget this year.
NYC Council claimed in the letter they sent to the Office of the Mayor that the legal aid providers, including city lawyers and public defenders, needed more budget to ensure they were providing services with enough funds.
According to reports from Daily News, the NYC Council’s support to push additional funding for the legal aid providers only means that the officials failed to give enough budget for them despite the free legal services the city lawyers and public defenders provide several NYC residents.
NYC Council Calls for Salary Increases to Legal Aid Providers Following Funding Crisis
With the demands of additional funding for legal aid providers, NYC Council also claimed that they should receive salary increases as they do their best to help individuals or groups in need of legal services.
If NYC Council’s calls for additional funding for legal aid providers will not be addressed and approved, the increasing gap between the legal system and the officials will widen more.
