New York’s Governor emphasized the importance of supporting mothers every day, not just on Mother’s Day

The Governor addressed a significant cost burden for new moms, namely childcare, as she understood the concerns and anxieties of young families, having quit her job to raise her children due to a lack of affordable childcare options.

She expanded childcare options and lowered costs for families by raising the income limit to the maximum allowed by federal law, thus expanding eligibility to 113,000 more families. Additionally, the Child Tax Credit was expanded to include children under four years old, benefiting more than 525,000 families and nearly 630,000 children. The amount parents pay for childcare was decreased, ensuring that families receiving assistance will contribute no more than one percent of their annual income. The Governor also launched an Employer-Sponsored Child Care pilot program.

All these programs were designed to lift the financial burden off the shoulders of working moms so that they could focus on other important expenses like diapers and formula

The Governor’s initiative recognized that supporting mothers was not just a one-day event, but a daily responsibility. By providing financial assistance, the Governor hoped to make the lives of working moms easier and more affordable so they could concentrate on their jobs and families.
