Montana Governor convened Property Tax Task Force and met for the first-time last Wednesday as officials look to challenge one of the most pressing issues of State Treasurer.

Montana Governor called on Property Tax Task Force members to come up with recommendations to accomplish goals like ending the present property tax growth rate and making bills easier to comprehend all without creating a state sales tax.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte said that all Montanans know too well that property taxes are too high and that’s the reason why the task force was created to solve the current problem.
Task force members with the Montana Governor raised different issues they’ve seen in their communities, such as the increase in home values as more people move to the state. One suggestion was to examine if the existing tax relief programs are being underutilized.

The task force created by the Montana Governor has three subcommittees
The task force subcommittees must report to the larger group at each meeting. The committees are education, local government, and tax fairness/equity.
Montana Governor tasked the budget office to coordinate with task force members to set a date for the next meeting. The group will create a written report of recommendations by mid-August.
