Massive Brush Fire Near Gatlinburg Contained Just in Time—Here’s What You Need to Know!

GATLINBURG, TN – Firefighters in Gatlinburg acted quickly Monday afternoon to contain a fast-moving brush fire that threatened several homes. The fire, which broke out around 1:07 p.m. near Greenbriar Lane, was fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, making it difficult to control.

Crews from the Gatlinburg Fire Department, along with help from the Sevier County and Pigeon Forge fire departments, worked together to stop the fire from spreading. Firefighters focused on protecting three nearby structures as the flames crept closer.

“We were able to contain the fire before it could cause any major damage,” said Gatlinburg Fire Chief Charlie Cole. “Our team acted fast, and we’re grateful for the support of our neighboring fire departments.”

High Fire Danger Sparks Concern

The fire happened during a Red Flag Warning, a critical alert issued by the National Weather Service when weather conditions make it easy for wildfires to start and spread quickly.

Dry air, warm temperatures, and gusty winds created the perfect conditions for a fire to get out of control. Officials have issued a burn ban, meaning no outdoor burning is allowed until further notice.

“With these dry conditions, even the smallest spark can turn into a dangerous fire,” said Chief Cole. “We urge everyone to be extremely careful and follow all fire restrictions.”

What Residents Should Know

Fire crews are still monitoring the area to make sure the fire doesn’t flare up again. Meanwhile, officials are asking residents and visitors to take extra precautions.

Here’s what you need to do to help prevent fires:

  • Avoid burning anything outdoors—campfires, fire pits, and even discarded cigarettes can start a wildfire.
  • Be careful with equipment—chains, machinery, and even vehicles can create sparks that ignite dry grass.
  • Stay alert for updates—check the City of Gatlinburg’s website or local news for the latest fire warnings.

Looking Ahead

Fire officials are keeping a close eye on weather conditions in the coming days. If the dry, windy weather continues, the risk of more fires will remain high.

“We’re asking for the community’s help in preventing future fires,” said Chief Cole. “Following fire safety guidelines can make a huge difference in keeping everyone safe.”
