Approved Reimbursements to Replace Stolen Benefits During Massachusetts SNAP Scam

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has been providing relief to many low-income families and support to local farmers in Massachusetts for years, but with the stolen benefits during the SNAP scam, several beneficiaries had difficulty meeting their financial needs.

Following the incident, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey approved a budget for reimbursing the stolen benefits of several beneficiaries during the SNAP scam that happened from April to September 2022.

According to the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), the $2 million approved budget for the reimbursement will cover the stolen funds in the Massachusetts SNAP scam done through electronic fraud or phishing.

The department advised the beneficiaries to frequently change their PINs to avoid being victims of a SNAP scam. The beneficiaries should report to them if they believe they have been victims of a suspected SNAP scam in their fraud hotline, Boston 25 News reported.

The victims of the reported SNAP scam will expect a statement to be received through text or email and will get the reimbursements starting on May 12.
