Jackson County happily announced the launching of the Property Tax Credit for Seniors Program to help qualified residents with property tax payments on their homes. The Property Tax Credit is authorized by a new law known as Senate Bill 190.
The new law freezes an eligible resident’s property tax bill and gives Property Tax Credits to Seniors
Applications for the Property Tax Credit Program for Seniors are now available. Those who are approved for the program this year will see the property tax credit benefit on their bill in 2025.
Jackson County is keen on supporting the well-being of our senior residents and the Property Tax Credits to Seniors offer benefits, ensuring financial relief and stability for qualified individuals. The state encourages qualified senior residents to take advantage of the opportunity presented by this valuable Property Tax Credit Program.
The following are the guidelines for the Property Tax Credit Program:
- Eligibility Criteria: The Property Tax Credit Program is available to Jackson County residents who are eligible for Social Security retirement benefits and meet the property ownership qualifications.
- Tax Credit Amount: The year an application is approved sets the base amount for the property tax credit bill freeze.
- One Primary Residence: Applicants can only claim one primary residence. The primary residence must be occupied by a qualified resident.
- Market Value Maximum: The market value of the property must be less than $550,000 to be qualified for the Property Tax Credit Program.
Property Tax Credit Program deadline for application
The deadline to submit new applications and supporting documentation for the Property Tax Credit Program via email or in person is December 31 of each year.
Once approved, applicants will be required to renew their application to stay in the Property Tax Credit program. Renewal applications are due each year by August 31.
