HomeAdvisor Inc., an online listing service of professionals for home improvement, will pay $6.82 million to settle the false advertising claims against them Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed against HomeAdvisor Inc., the corporation released false and misleading information, claiming that the home improvement professionals that can be found on their site were background-checked and had enough experience and knowledge in home improvement or repairs.
The complaint also revealed that HomeAdvisor Inc. did not conduct background checks on all the professionals but only on independent business owners, leaving the laborers unchecked despite them being the ones who will perform the tasks.

HomeAdvisor Inc. Receives Criticisms After Misleading and False Advertising Claims
Following the misleading and false advertising claims, several individuals claimed that HomeAdvisor Inc. should release accurate information in their advertisements to not mislead the consumers of the services they offer and who are the people behind them.
Aside from reaching the settlement payment agreement, HomeAdvisor Inc. was banned from running misleading and false advertisements to resolve their wrong actions and regain their consumers’ trust, SFGATE reported.
