Here’s why high rent prices continue hurting minimum wage workers in Peterborough.
High Rent Prices Continue Hurting Workers in Peterborough Following Low Minimum Wage
The high rent prices in Peterborough continue hurting workers with a low minimum wage of $15.50 as the high rent prices keep increasing in the city, wherein the minimum wage workers have a hard time looking for affordable apartments.
According to a report published in Global News, minimum wage workers reportedly need to have an estimated minimum wage of $20.96 to afford an apartment with one bedroom and $25.75 to get an apartment with two bedrooms, which is far from the current minimum wage in the city, leading to several workers not affording apartments for themselves and their family following high rent prices.
With the high rent prices in the city, it makes it harder for minimum wage workers to afford to rent apartments, affecting the economy and how affordable housing has been accessible to the residents working hard to get apartments despite high rent prices and getting low minimum wage.
