High housing costs continued to rise despite calls from low-income renters to lower the rent following the shortage of affordable housing available as high housing costs also increased the number of evicted renters, forcing them to be homeless.
According to a report published in Detroit Free Press, the high housing costs had been affecting struggling renters who were already on the verge of losing their homes because they couldn’t afford the high housing costs together with the increasing cost of living due to inflation.
With the high housing costs, several low-income renters were evicted from their homes, and some of them are now living outside their cars or in parks where they would set up tents to have a shelter for their families, but they continue to call to lower high housing costs to afford a house that they would be able to call home again.
Officials Introduce New Policies and Rights for Renters Following High Housing Costs in US
Following the high housing costs in the US, officials are taking action and introducing new policies and bills for low-income renters across the country, including an attempt to lift a ban on rent control.
Low-income renters who have lost their houses would expect bills to protect their rights as officials promised to prioritize providing affordable housing for them amidst the high housing costs, Michigan Advance reported.
