Alabama Governor Kay Ellen Ivey is reminding taxpayers that the one-time tax rebates included in her 2023 budget will be distributed starting December 1st

The Alabama Department of Revenue will be responsible for issuing these rebates. Governor Kay Ellen Ivey expressed her belief in the government’s responsibility to be prudent with taxpayer dollars and to find ways to support citizens during challenging times. The rebates aim to provide financial relief to Alabama families, especially as many face difficulties making ends meet.

To be eligible for the rebates, taxpayers must have filed their 2021 Individual Income Tax return by October 17, 2022. Non-residents, estates, trusts, and dependents claimed in the 2021 tax year are not eligible. The rebate amounts vary based on filing status, with $150 for single, head of family, and married filing separately, and $300 for married filing jointly.

Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton acknowledged the impact of inflation on the state, stating that these rebates will help alleviate the burden

Qualified taxpayers will receive their rebates through the same method they received their 2021 tax year refund, either by direct deposit or paper check. For those who didn’t receive a 2021 tax year refund, the rebate will be issued by paper check.

Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter emphasized the collaborative effort between the Alabama House and Governor Kay Ellen Ivey to address the challenges posed by high inflation rates. It’s important to note that these rebates will not be taxable for Alabama income tax purposes.
