The New Mexico Department of Veteran Services (NM DVS) and various Bernalillo County leaders are organizing the event, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center located at 9800 Fourth St. NW.
A free clinic aimed at assisting veterans and unmarried widows with their property tax filings, including potential tax benefits, will take place on Wednesday, May 24
The clinic aims to ensure that veterans and unmarried widows receive the property tax breaks they are entitled to. Bernalillo County Commissioner Walt Benson expressed his commitment to assisting veterans, stating, “Our veterans have earned this benefit, and we are committed to ensuring they receive it.”
He also expressed gratitude to NM DVS and Assessor Lara for bringing the clinic to his district and making it convenient for local veterans to file for the property tax break.
Eligible veterans may qualify for a $4,000 reduction in the taxable value of their residence
In addition, some service-connected veterans might be eligible for a property tax waiver. To participate in the clinic, interested individuals should bring their DD-214 documents as proof of veteran status. Additionally, a document demonstrating residency should be brought along.
This free event aims to simplify the process of filing property taxes for veterans and unmarried widows, providing them with the necessary support and guidance. By offering assistance with tax filings and informing them about potential tax benefits, the clinic hopes to ensure that veterans receive the benefits they have earned and deserve.
