The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s most recent statistics show that total federal expenditure on food stamps decreased to $8.6 billion in March from $10.5 billion in February. The most recent month, March, was the initial month after the additional COVID supplement was terminated.
According to the most recent survey, family average benefits every month currently stand at $386.17, down from $470.96 in February.
In December 2022, government expenditures on SNAP assistance reached a high of $10.9 billion, with a typical family getting $488.89 in benefits each month.
In the US, 42.3 million people are SNAP beneficiaries right now. California has the most receivers with 5.2 million, whereas Alaska has the lowest number with 29,000.
