New Bill to End Childhood Poverty

Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Jesus Garcia introduced the End Child Poverty Act to benefit many families who can’t afford basic needs. The new bill will provide monthly checks of $393 per child until they turn 18.

According to Advance Local, the End of Child Poverty Act will address and cut down childhood poverty for almost two-thirds and provide families with payments that will help them afford the needs of their children, including healthcare and food.

With the $393 monthly checks entitled to families, which amounts to almost $4,700 yearly per child, it will greatly help reduce the increasing childhood poverty rates.

New Bill Will Replace CTC

The End of Child Poverty Act will replace the Child Tax Credit (CTC), which provided families $2,000 a year and was increased to $3,000 per 6-17-year-old children and $3,600 per child ages 5 and below during the pandemic.

The CTC was bound to expire after the pandemic, which would affect many families, and the End of Child Poverty Act proposal will continue what the CTC started.
