A variety of stimulus checks totaling $1,200 in April 2020, $600 in December 2020, and $1,400 in March 2021 were given to eligible people.
The government contributed $930 billion in direct payments to aid in relief efforts, but after reviewing tax returns, the IRS investigator Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that $4.7 billion of those funds were unclaimed. That suggests that the government is still owed money by millions of Americans.
Individuals who got only a portion of the 3rd payment or who failed to get the entire payment make up the majority of the unclaimed funds. Some people were previously ineligible for the stimulus payment but are now eligible, including those whose income dropped in 2021 or individuals who had a child in that year.
