The majority of Canadians were expected to file their taxes by May 1 this year, according to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), but anyone who is self-employed and their spouse or common-law partner must do so by June 15.

If you’re wondering whether you qualify for the extra month and a half to file, the exemption applies to everyone who ran a business and incurred business costs in the 2022 tax year.

But take note: despite the new deadline, May 1 has remained the original reporting deadline for anyone who owed the CRA money.
