Chelsea, Massachusetts, is about to make its final direct payment to residents receiving money from a food and utility subsidy program

The 738 households enrolled in the program will receive their last payment on May 15. This final round of payments, which ranges from $200 to $400, is part of the Chelsea Eats program, designed to assist residents with their food and utility costs. Recipients have been receiving their payments on debit cards issued in March.

The amount issued to each household is determined by the number of people living in the home. Households with one resident receive $200, while households with two receive $300. Households with three or more residents receive $400. The program website includes more details on eligibility requirements, including the household income being less than 30% of the area median income. For example, households with one resident must make less than $29,450, while households with two must make less than $33,650.

The income threshold increases for each additional household member

According to a spokesperson for the City of Chelsea, this payment will be the final payment made through the program. The first payment was issued on March 15, followed by a second payment on April 15. The program has provided significant financial assistance to households in Chelsea struggling to make ends meet. Direct payments have helped ease the burden of food and utility costs for many families.

Residents are encouraged to use their debit cards wisely and spend the funds on the essentials. With this final payment, the program will come to an end. The City of Chelsea hopes that the program has been beneficial to those who were eligible to participate and that the funds have helped families get through a difficult time.
