Tenants’ rights advocates and the California Department of Housing and Community Development succeeded in a settlement this week to address processing delays and denials in rent relief applications for eligible tenants, meaning more renters could soon get financial aid.

Tenants advocates and the Department of Housing and Community Development of California have reached a settlement to discourse processing those who were denied and delayed for rent relief program applications.
California tasked the Department of Housing and Community Development to administer more than $5 billion in state funds to assist tenants with rent relief programs through the Pandemic Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
The department closed the application portal on March 2022, and because of the settlement, more tenants could get financial support.

The settlement would help over 100,000 households waiting to receive the rent relief program
A surge in delays and denials began after the closure of the application portal. The tenant advocates filed a lawsuit that alleges that qualified renters were rejected and left without financial support.
