California Reparations Task Force would face a hurdle to passing any reparations proposal in the Legislature

The California Reparations Task Force began putting dollar figures to possible compensation of the state to Black Californians for the various forms of racial discrimination and generational pain. The California Reparations Task Force estimated by economic consultants may mean that billions of dollars could be compensated to Black Californians.

However, the politicians said the California Reparations Task Force indicated the reparations would be a tough case to make.

The California Reparations Task Force voted to recommend to state leaders that if California makes some form of reparations available, they can compensate Black Californians who can establish the lineage of their enslaved ancestors rather than those who are immigrants.

The payment could be in cash, grants, or other financial programs, said California Reparations Task Force.
