Residents of Sacramento County, California, have the opportunity to benefit from a new round of guaranteed income, thanks to a California guaranteed income program funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and a generous donation from the Sierra Health Foundation.
The California guaranteed income program allocates $1 million to provide 130 households with a monthly, no-strings-attached payment of $500 for a duration of one year
This California guaranteed income program aims to assist historically undervalued and under-invested communities in covering essential expenses such as housing, food, and childcare. Recipients have the freedom to utilize the cash in any way they see fit.
To be eligible for the California guaranteed income, applicants must meet specific income criteria based on household size. For instance, a single adult household’s income should not exceed $28,205, while a household with two adults and two children must earn less than $79,500.
Applicants selected for the California guaranteed income program will be required to furnish documentation verifying their current income levels, including any public cash benefits they may receive
This form of guaranteed income, also referred to as universal basic income, is gaining popularity across the United States, with various programs established in California targeting low-income or disadvantaged communities.
In Palm Springs, 30 individuals are presently receiving monthly payments of $800 through a program linked to the advocacy-based health center DAP Health and the transgender mental health organization Queer Works. Similarly, low-income residents in Fairfax, Virginia, are benefiting from $750 monthly support. Additionally, Americans nationwide have the opportunity to apply for funds from a $5 million Facebook settlement. The application deadline for this California guaranteed income program is rapidly approaching, with submissions closing on October 31, 2023. The initial payments are scheduled for distribution on January 1, 2024.
