California Governor Newsom refused to support reparations cheques, claiming that the legacy of slavery is “beyond cash payouts”

California Governor Gavin Newsom refused to support the financial rewards that his reparations task committee suggested, which might total up to $1.2 million for one beneficiary. He told Fox News Digital that addressing the consequences of enslavement “is much greater than financial payments.”

“Our bipartisan attempt to promote justice and foster healing has reached a new high with the release of the Reparations Task Force’s independent conclusions and suggestions.

This was a significant process, and as a country, we must continue to strive to compensate for the original sin of slavery and comprehend how our past has influenced our present,” Newsom stated in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The task force’s work was praised by the Democratic governor, but he chose not to support any particular suggestions. Yet, he promised to keep “advance progressive changes that assure an inclusive and equal tomorrow for all Californians.”
