Another of the larger grocery companies, Kroger, has noticed a drop in spending by people on a tight budget as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) advantages have fallen.
Throughout the earnings call, Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen underlined the effects of lower perks. He claimed that consumers were choosing less expensive goods and smaller packages as a result of the reduction in SNAP benefits. They could pick a less expensive 4-pack rather than a 12-pack.
After the cancellation of the Covid emergency program, which had temporarily increased the advantages to the maximum amount for all participants to handle their food needs, the SNAP payments were reduced.
