Millions of Americans receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are set to receive their March payments earlier than expected. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that due to March 1, 2025, falling on a Saturday, payments will be issued a day earlier—on Friday, February 28, 2025.
This scheduling change ensures beneficiaries get their funds on time without any weekend-related delays. The SSA follows this policy whenever the first of the month lands on a weekend or holiday, preventing any disruptions for recipients who depend on these payments.
Who Will Receive the Early Payment?
Approximately 7.5 million Americans who rely on SSI benefits will be affected by this change. These payments primarily support low-income individuals aged 65 and older, as well as those who are blind or disabled. Unlike standard Social Security retirement benefits, SSI is needs-based and does not require recipients to have paid into the Social Security system.
How Much Will You Get?
The payment amounts have been adjusted following the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). The new monthly maximum federal SSI payments are:
- $967 for an individual
- $1,450 for a couple
- $484 for an essential person (someone who helps care for an SSI recipient)
This adjustment is designed to help SSI beneficiaries keep up with rising living costs.
Why Is Social Security Paying Early?
This February advance payment is the third consecutive month of adjusted schedules:
- January’s payment was issued on December 31, 2024 (due to New Year’s Day)
- February’s payment was sent on January 31, 2025 (since February 1 falls on a Saturday)
- March’s payment will be sent on February 28, 2025 (as March 1 is also on a Saturday)
Regular payment schedules will resume in April 2025, with SSI funds being deposited on the first of the month as usual.
What Should You Do?
