Medical Billing Transparency.
Senate approved SB 490 in May, and just recently Gov. Greg Abbott signed it into law. The law requires all medical facility to itemized patients availment of healthcare facility where the patients can understand what they are paying for, before sending it to billing. This includes hospital but not health care centers, wherein the healthcare provider can send it electronically or through the patients portal.
Rep. Caroline Harris, R-Round Rock, and Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola are the authors of the bill, which faced rejection and repulse due to the cost of providing the itemized bill. But they said they are happy that it has been passed and helped in the transparency in the medical billing process.
