President Joe Biden has rejected legislation that would have ended his student loan forgiveness program, reaffirming his commitment to working-class families. Biden addressed the Republican-led campaign to prevent his administration’s $400 billion program, which would provide up to $10,000 in student debt relief, with the additional help of up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients, in a video uploaded on Twitter. Notably, nearly 90% of these relief payments would benefit people earning less than $75,000 per year.
Biden Pledges To Help Working And Middle-Class Families Recover from The Pandemic.
“I will not back down from my efforts to assist tens of millions of working and middle-class families.” That is why I intend to veto this law,” President Biden stated emphatically. He also emphasized the inconsistency of certain senators who sought personal loans to sustain their small enterprises during the pandemic and advocated for tax cuts benefiting corporations and wealthy persons while opposing student debt relief.
Biden underlined his unflinching commitment to assisting working and middle-class Americans in their recovery from the pandemic, particularly with regard to student loan debt. “I’m never going to apologize for assisting working and middle-class Americans as they recover from this pandemic,” he said emphatically.
President Biden first proposed eliminating student loan debt of up to $10,000 for persons earning less than $125,000, and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients, last year. However, the program was temporarily halted following its announcement due to a court injunction.
