Millions of people across the UK recently received a £299 Cost of Living Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), designed to help low-income households with rising expenses. However, many are now wondering—will there be another payment in 2025?
Was the £299 Payment the Last One?
The £299 payment, sent out in February 2024, was the final installment of a three-part support package that began in April 2023. The government originally announced a total of £900 in Cost of Living Payments, which was split into:
- £301 (April 2023)
- £300 (October/November 2023)
- £299 (February 2024)
To qualify, individuals had to be receiving certain benefits, including Universal Credit, Pension Credit, and income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA).
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of a new round of Cost of Living Payments in 2025. Officials have stated that the £299 payment was the last in the series, and no additional automatic payouts are planned.
What Support Is Still Available?
Even though the Cost of Living Payments are ending, the government has extended other forms of financial aid to help struggling households.
- Household Support Fund: This fund has been extended into 2025, providing emergency financial support through local councils. Eligible households may receive help with food, energy bills, and essential costs.
- Winter Fuel Payment: This payment, which helps pensioners with heating costs, has changed. It is now means-tested, meaning only those receiving Pension Credit or similar benefits will get it.
- Warm Home Discount: A £150 discount on electricity bills for low-income households, applied automatically to eligible customers’ bills.
- Cold Weather Payment: A £25 payment for every seven-day period of freezing temperatures (November–March).
What Officials Are Saying
Government officials acknowledge that millions of people are still struggling with the cost of living. While there are no plans for new Cost of Living Payments, they emphasize that other support programs will continue.
Experts urge eligible individuals to check if they qualify for benefits like Pension Credit, which can unlock access to additional financial help.
What Should You Do Now?
If you’re concerned about rising costs, check with your local council about the Household Support Fund, make sure you’re claiming all eligible benefits, and keep an eye out for updates on government assistance programs.
While the £299 payment was the last of its kind, other financial support remains available. Don’t miss out—make sure you’re getting all the help you’re entitled to.
