Approximately 92,100 individuals, constituting 12% of the state’s population, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in Alaska, with an average monthly payment of $271 per household member. Alaska categorizes households into three regions: Rural I, Rural II, and Urban, each with varying maximum monthly payments. In the “Urban” region, a one-person household can receive up to $374, while a household of four can get $1,248, and a household of eight, $2,246. Beyond eight members, an additional $281 is allotted per person.
For “Rural I” households, the maximum payment for a single-person household is $477, increasing to $1,591 for a family of four, and up to $2,865 for a household of eight.
An extra $368 is provided for each additional member
In “Rural II” households, maximum payments amount to $581 for one person, $1,937 for four, and $3,487 for eight, with an additional $436 for each extra member. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are loaded onto an electronic benefits transfer card known as the Alaska Quest Card. This card allows households to purchase groceries, snacks, and seeds or plants but prohibits the acquisition of alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, live animals, prepared foods, or non-food household items.
