All Alex Dwan wished for was to be debt-free. She decided to settle off her last $2,300 in federal student loans early because her financial situation was good at the beginning of the pandemic.
She briefly appreciated her unreachable debt-free status. After trying a popular student loan “hack,” which failed, Dwan, 28, is now in a worse financial situation as a result of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling dismissing President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness proposal.
She’s trapped with the debt once more, and payments will shortly resume.
It’s not just her. According to Department of Education data, a minimum of 9 million borrowers may be entitled to reimbursement for any expenses they make throughout the student loan moratorium, which began in March 2020 and will last till the finish of August.
