10 Movies Like Plane You Must Watch

We talk about 10 movies similar to the essential 2023 film Plane. Put these highly regarded movies on your watch list and take pleasure.

In what could be considered a throwback to a bygone era of cinema, the movie Plane, which debuted on January 13, 2023, was a minor hit for rugged Scottish gladiator slayer Gerard Butler. The protagonist is an unlikely hero who is thrust into a dangerous, life-threatening set of circumstances and tries his best to save the day.

Whether or not it was the intention, this film brought to mind some other vintage thrillers that feature heroic figures attempting to save the cast against all odds and, of course, aeroplanes. In light of that, here are ten films you absolutely must watch that are similar to Plane.

10 Movies like Plane you must watch

Flight (2012)

The supremely cool master beyond belief Robert Zemeckis’s taught airborne thriller stars Denzel Washington alongside John Goodman and Don Cheadle. On a routine flight from Orlando to Atlanta, a malfunction forces pilot Whip Whitaker to use his abilities to save the passengers. Even so, it appears that he is responsible for the events when he awakens in the hospital. This aircraft-based masterpiece had to be included on our list due to its flawless performances and expert direction.

Red Eye (2005)

In a departure from his usual style, Wes Craven directs this psychological thriller set on a plane. Ice-eyed frost king Cillian Murphy and Rachael McAdams star in the film, which will make you rethink making new friends while flying. An anxious traveller is used as a pawn by a meticulous killer in a plot to kill a U.S. senator. The movie is mentioned here in our list of films like Plane because of how similar its tone is to the first act of our featured movie.

Con Air (1997)

Nicholas Cage made a name for himself in this fast-paced airplane-based film, which still has one of the best climaxes in action movie history. Cage is a self-deprecating, slightly aged Hollywood maniac. In the prison transport plane, which the other inmates are using to try to escape, Cage plays a murderer who was unfairly condemned. This is one of the best movies like Plane that we could locate because of the adrenaline rush.

Ground Control (1998)

This next item on the list is one you may not be familiar with, so you might want to give it a look.

Once again, this is an almost all-star ensemble cast, including young Donald Sutherland vampire spy Kiefer Sutherland, Margaret Cho, Bruce McGill, Robert Sean Leonard, Henry Winkler, and Ruben Paul. When everything goes wrong, Sutherland, a disgraced air traffic controller, receives the call to come back to work. Can he win over his coworkers’ trust and save a jet that appears to be headed for another catastrophe? We won’t tell you, but it’s on our list of films similar to Plane, so check it out.

7500 (2019)

Another film that might have slipped your mind—yes, on purpose—is a great pulse-pounder from German director Patrick Vollrath, whose work gives the entire picture an almost documentary-like feel. In this suspenseful film starring everyone’s favourite Jiminy Cricket, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a plane travelling from Berlin to Paris is assaulted by hijackers who attempt to storm the c**k pit. Levitt prepared to become a pilot in preparation for the part as the stakes start to increase and the tension grows. In the event of a hijacking, the code number “7500” is used; keep your ears open just in case.

Battle Royale (2000)

Hence, you might be curious about this one, but bear with me. The crew and passengers of the plane crash land and end themselves among the island’s rebellious criminal population after being forced to land there. Similar to the factions on the island in Battle Royale, our cast is forced to struggle to survive against the organised criminal forces in the second and third acts of the film.

Turistas (2006)

Hence, once more, we are moving away from only films that are like “Plane” because they feature a plane but follow the path of characters fighting to survive an attack in a desolate, distant environment. The sad trio of young travellers in this movie finds themselves ambushed, abducted, and drugged by organ traffickers after crashing their automobile in a Brazilian jungle. In this English-Portuguese collaboration, which had to be noted, we pull for our characters to avoid a terrible fate while feeling the same tension as in Plane.

Passenger 57 (1992)

Thankfully, Wesley Snipes is on board this fateful aircraft when it is attacked mid-flight by a nefarious gang of evildoers under the careful eye of wicked terrorist Charles Rane. Snipes is a blade-wielding vampire killer. In this action-packed thriller, Snipes’ character, undercover security officer John Cutter, faces challenges as he tries to preserve the plane and contends with the schemes of corporate toe rags who don’t want the incident to become public. This is typical 90s action fare, but depending on your mood, that may be precisely what you need.

Non-Stop (2014)

This performance was another step in Liam Neeson’s transformation into an action hero. In this role, he portrays an air marshal on a transatlantic aircraft that also includes a psychotic killer. The cat and mouse game is essentially a whodunit on an aircraft, with the murderer threatening to kill a traveller every 20 minutes unless they receive payment. Unlike Plane, all of the action takes place during the journey, but you have to admit that this is a fantastic notion. This fantastic film, which Jaume Collet-Serra, a previous partner of Leeson’s, directed, is comparable to Plane in at least one way.

Last Seen Alive (2022)

We therefore believed that the star, Gerard Butler, may have a large fan base, so leaving out another of his films seemed improper.

After his wife unexpectedly vanishes at the neighbourhood gas station, Gerard is thrust into the underworld of a tiny town in the psychological thriller Last Seen Alive. There are no real curve balls, much like in Plane’s storytelling style. Although it has the sense of a movie from a bygone era, this entertaining, if little predictable, thriller features Gerard Butler doing what he does best.
