The violent crime rate of North Las Vegas, which borders Las Vegas, is double the national average. The city’s crime rate is above the national average despite a modest drop since 2018.

The small town of Elko, on Interstate 80, has a crime rate 25% higher than the national average and equivalent to Las Vegas. Despite its small population, Elko has high violent crime rates, highlighting the need for protection in smaller areas.

Fifth-largest Nevada city Sparks, a Reno suburb, shares its crime problems. Sparks has lower homicide rates than Elko but still has high crime rates.

Nevada’s second-largest city, Henderson, is safe despite its rapid growth and proximity to Las Vegas. It ranks fourth in Nevada for violent crime in 2022 with 10.7 per 1,000 residents.

Though small, mining town Winnemucca has higher property crime rates than Sparks and Henderson.

Carlin, on Interstate 80 between Elko and Winnemucca, has a 39.08 crime rate, above the national average.

Lovelock, northeast of Reno on Interstate 80, has disproportionately high crime. The city remains renowned despite a drop in crime.

In Nevada’s crime landscape, Mesquite, a small town near Arizona and Utah, has exceptional crime rates, particularly rape rates.
