If you’re visiting or living in Charlotte, it’s important to know about these areas so you can stay safe. One of the most dangerous places is the Beatties Ford Road area. Property crimes like theft and burglary are more common. It’s a good idea to keep your doors locked and your valuables safe.
Taking Precautions in Charlotte’s High-Crime Areas
Another area to be careful in is the Hidden Valley neighborhood. In recent years there’s been more violent crime there so it’s best to avoid walking alone at night. The Druid Hills South neighborhood is also a bit more dangerous than other parts of Charlotte. While the overall crime rate is lower there’s still more violent crime than in other neighborhoods. - Pinecrest: The riskiest neighborhood in Charlotte. With only 227 people it has a crime rate 529% higher than the city’s average. People living there often suffer from theft and violent crimes like shootings. A lot of these crimes are linked to gangs.

Lincoln Heights: Another tough neighborhood in Charlotte. It has a violent crime rate much higher than the city’s average. With a population of 2,376 it’s got a total crime rate 449% higher than the average. Gangs are a big part of the problem and shootings happen a lot. Many people there feel like the police can’t keep an eye on the neighborhood well enough. And it’s not just violent crimes things like stealing cars breaking into homes and stealing stuff are also common.
- Lakewood: Another dangerous part of Charlotte. With 887 people, it’s got a crime rate 435% higher than the city’s average. Some parts have gotten better because more people with money have moved in. But most of it is still dangerous. There’s a lot of violent and property crime. Some places are okay during the day but you have to be careful at night.
- Tryon Hills: Tough neighborhood in Charlotte. With about 1,600 people its crime rate is 391% higher than the city’s average. It’s a poor area with a lot of people living in poverty. - Smallwood: A neighborhood close to downtown Charlotte. With 1,183 people, its violent crime rate is 305% higher than the city’s average. People there often steal things rob others ,steal cars, or hurt people. The schools aren’t great and they don’t have enough money. But some people like living there because rent is cheap and it’s close to downtown.
- Plaza-Shamrock: A another dangerous neighborhood in Charlotte. With 3,078 people, its crime rate is 297% higher than the city’s average. It’s in the northeast part of Charlotte. It used to be really bad but now they’re fixing it up. Crime is worse near E. Sugar Creek and the Giant Penny.
- Washington Heights: Near downtown Charlotte and has 2,018 people. Its violent crime rate is 294% higher than the city’s average. Even though they’re fixing it up there’s still a lot of stealing and theft. Sometimes there’s violent crime especially in certain parts of the neighborhood.
- Enderly Park: A neighborhood in northwest Charlotte. It has 3,249 people. The violent crime rate is 292% higher than the city’s average. It’s not getting better because rich people aren’t moving in yet. Some places are really bad and don’t have what they need. People sometimes get murdered and robbed or have things stolen there.
