In an interview with Larry King from 2004, Lionel explained his continued interest in discussing Dahmer by saying: “I feel compelled to share my views on the qualities I believe parents should prioritize while bringing up their kids. One thing I’d like to stress to parents is the importance of not dismissing shyness. Discuss things in great detail.”
Lionel admitted that he and Joyce, his ex-wife, were unaware of their son Dahmer’s morbid fascination with roadkill and dead animals. According to the Netflix show, Lionel was aware of his macabre interests.
