Born on January 24, 1986, Sean McVay is the current head coach of the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). When the Rams hired him in 2017, at the age of 30, he became the league’s youngest head coach in modern history.
Career
McVay is the youngest head coach in Super Bowl history, and he has also made the most Super Bowl appearances and won the AP NFL Coach of the Year award.
McVay took over for the Rams, who had the league’s worst offense the year before, and turned them into the highest-scoring team in the league in 2017, eventually winning their division. For the Rams, it was their first winning season since 2003 and their first postseason berth since 2004.
During McVay’s tenure as head coach, the Rams made two trips to the Super Bowl and won their first championship since 1999, Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals. As a result of his success in Los Angeles, the NFL now prioritizes recruiting younger head coaches.

You shouldn’t assume that Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, will remain in the NFL forever just because he turned 36. McVay has come out in the past week to say that he plans to retire from coaching sooner than most people think.
McVay is planning to marry his fiancee, Veronika Khomyn, this summer. He longs to settle down with a wife and have children.
McVay Stated This Week
“I love this so much that it’s a passion, but I also know… what I’ve seen from some of my closest friends, whether they be coaches or even some of our players.”
I have always wanted to be a father, and while I can’t know what the future holds, I do know that I’m getting married this summer and that having a family is a priority of mine.
As of now, McVay is not expected to retire this season, but that could change. Supposedly, he could transition into television, which would provide a much more laid-back schedule.
After McVay’s time with the Redskins, he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Veronika Khomyn. It is said that they first crossed paths while she was a student at George Mason University and he was coaching in the District of Columbia.
In 2019, McVay, formerly an assistant coach for the Washington Redskins, proposed to his now-fiancée. He proposed to her in France, an international location.
It was planned that the happy pair would get married during the pandemic, but plans had to be put on hold.
McVay’s fiancee works as a high-end real estate agent, yet she still manages to fly around the country to watch the Rams play. The Super Bowl is being held in a neutral location, which is a huge blessing.

The “Sean Mc Vay Effect”
As a result of McVay’s success as the Rams’ head coach at such a young age and his offensive prowess, NFL organizations have begun to favor hiring younger offensive-minded coaches as their head coaches rather than coaches with defensive backgrounds or more experience.
Many of McVay’s assistant coaches have been promoted to head coaching positions, including the six-year-old Matt LaFleur, the three-year-old Zac Taylor, the three-year-old Brandon Staley, and the two-year-old Kevin O’Connell (eight months older).
Others have pointed to Kliff Kingsbury’s (six years older than McVay) meteoric climb from being fired as head coach of a troubled Texas Tech program to being hired as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in a span of three months as evidence of the impact of McVay’s offensive success.
Mike McDaniel (three years older than McVay) was hired by the Miami Dolphins in 2022. From 2011 to 2013, he served alongside McVay, LaFleur, and future 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on the Washington Redskins coaching staff.
This trend would apply to other high-profile coaching roles as well. Shane Waldron, Joe Barry, Ejiro Evero, Wes Phillips, Dwayne Stukes, and Matt Daniels, to name a few of McVay’s lower-level coaches, were frequently hired as offensive, defensive, or special teams coordinators on other teams.
