In a report from CBS News, a shooting was reported at 8 o’clock. Southeast D.C. time is Eastern time. Pamela Smith, the acting Metropolitan Police Chief, made the announcement during a late-night news briefing.

There have been no detentions. Uncertainty existed regarding the shooting’s causes and the number of suspects involved. The existence of a motive was likewise unknown.

Killings are up 21% and violent crime is up 37% this year
Smith was chosen as the D.C. Robert Contee, who stated in April that he was leaving the department to work for the FBI as an associate director of the Office of Partner Engagement, was replaced as police chief last month, reports Wtop News.
In an interview with CBS News on the day of his departure, Contee stated that there are a lot more guns in communities today than there were during his tenure with the police force.
Recent years have seen an increase in crime in Washington, D.C. According to the most recent city statistics, killings are up 21% and violent crime is up 37% so far this year compared to the same period in 2022.
