Franklin Township Police and Community Unite Against Burglaries: A Model of Collective Crime Prevention
FTPD officers and the community work together to prevent crime using a Community Policing Model. The agency has developed focused crime prevention strategies to combat escalating residential burglaries. Maeweather stressed, “These individuals are attempting to disrupt our peace at the place we expect our comfort, our homes.”
Cost-effective burglary prevention tips from the FTPD are available to residents. Use light timers and leave the TV on to create the idea of an occupied home. Securing sliding glass doors with rods and pruning adjacent trees to prevent ladders are also recommended.
The department recommends putting Grade 1 deadbolt locks on exterior doors and adding heavy-duty strike plates to door frames for added security. Home security systems with cameras, motion sensor lighting at access points, and large dogs as burglar deterrents are recommended.
