The teenager who unintentionally killed another kid in a car in Oroville earlier this year has admitted guilt, according to sources, and will be sentenced in September.
All three teens were in possession of a semi-automatic weapon
According to a news release issued on Friday by Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, the 16-year-old, whose name has been suppressed due to his age, was in a car with Amadeus Miller-Ramos, 13, and an unidentified 14-year-old while all three were in possession of a semi-automatic weapon. Miller-Ramos was shot in the back by the 16-year-old who was seated in the rear seat, which led to his death.
In a report from East Bay Times, near 18th Street and Thermalito Avenue, Miller-Ramos’s body was buried in a Thermalito field. According to the press statement, the other two lads gave contradictory accounts to police during the course of the investigation after the body was discovered.
The handgun, according to Ramsey, was taken from another car the day before the shooting. The 16-year-old admitted to investigators that at the time of the shot, he was unaware that the gun was loaded.
The shooter will reappear in court
Ramsey stated that this tragic incident serves as a lesson to us all that using firearms carelessly can result in serious injury or death. To prevent children from having easy access to their firearms, gun owners should make sure they are securely storing them.
At 8:30 a.m., the shooter will reappear in court. Sentenced on September 13, 2023. He is presently housed in the juvenile facility in Butte County, reports The Mercury News.
