Life Sentence for Andrew Beavers, 26, in Mother’s Murder Case

First-degree murderer Andrew Beavers, 26, received a life sentence. After Beavers’ August conviction, the state’s attorney’s office announced this on January 11. His plea of “mental disorder.” was rejected by the judge, who found him guilty of the horrible conduct.

Despite affection and support, Beavers assaulted his mother, according to State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. According to the announcement, Juanita gave him a home and car and wished him well. Leitess said the sentence holds Beavers accountable and does justice for Juanita’s devastated family.

Beavers’ defense counsel, Debra A. Saltz, was disappointed by the conviction, believing her client should have been found not guilty due to mental illness. Saltz said Beavers was psychotic during the incident. Instead of prison, he may have been admitted to a psychiatric facility if not criminally liable.
