On December 1991, Sarah Yarborough, 16, was found dead in the parking lot inside Federal Way Highschool. After 30 years, a man was convicted of her death after DNA results matched.

Witnesses’ description of the suspect was not enough to convict the murderer

The court sentenced Patrick Leon Nicholas guilty of murder and sexual intent on Wednesday after evidence was presented against him,  which is the DNA result from his discarded cigarettes was matched with the DNA found in Sarah’s fingernails and clothes.

The King County Judges admitted the DNA evidence and sentenced him guilty after 30 years.

In 2019, the police authorities of King Country announced the arrest of Patrick Leon Nicholas after decades based on the strength of DNA analysis results.

The strength of DNA evidence solved the cold case for 30 years

If not for DNA evidence, Patrick Leon Nicholas still roams around the city and possibly has another victim.

Patrick Leon Nicholas’s DNA matched the DNA found in the victim’s fingernails and semen on her clothes. The DNA was done through FBI DNA Index System.
