A shooting in Farmington, New Mexico, on Monday morning, left at least three people dead and six others injured, including two police officers.
Three dead, six injured in Farmington shooting; suspect killed
The suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man, was confronted and killed on the scene, according to police. The two injured officers were listed in stable condition at a hospital. The Farmington police officer had been released from the hospital by Monday night, while the New Mexico State Police officer was still in the hospital but “doing well,” said Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe.
Police responded to the scene around 11 a.m. and found the suspect firing upon individuals with at least three weapons, including an “AR-style rifle.” The shooting appeared random, with no schools, churches, or individuals targeted. The shooter roamed the neighborhood and randomly fired at whatever he wanted.

Authorities did not identify the suspect and were still trying to find a motive. A video posted on social media appeared to show the suspect with what looked like a gun pacing near a building. Investigators were trying to determine the validity of the video.
The Farmington school district placed all schools in lockdown at the request of the police. The lockdowns were all lifted by early afternoon, with the school district confirming that all students and staff were safe. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham called the shooting a “horrific tragedy” and said she was praying for the victims’ families and was grateful for the “quick response” from law enforcement.
